Understanding what causes Estate litigation can help people avoid expensive and costly litigation, often amongst family members. I read recently that the wealth transfer from one generation to the next over the next 20 years will be approximately 1 trillion in assets in Canada alone. This will be the largest intergenerational transfer of wealth in Canadian history. It will affect housing prices, stock markets, and unfortunately the Court docket.
I have observed in my professional capacity that divorces can be at times acrimonious. I have also observed in my professional capacity that disputes amongst siblings after a death can be even more acrimonious. If your spouse knows how to push your buttons after 10 years of marriage, imagine what your brother can do after 65 years. Estate planning has never been more important to avoid family conflict.
